Pula War Port – Naval Exibition

In Fort Verudela, in addition to the exhibition on marine life in the Adriatic, there is a second extensive exhibition on the Austro-Hungarian Navy. It ranges from the time of sailing ships to the Second World War. The Battle of Lissa (1866) and Pula as a naval base during the First World War find special attention in it.

Sailing ships and the first steam-powered ships were the first warships of the A.-H. stationed in Pula.

The exhibition covers the first and second floors of the fortress. Along the corridors there are models and information panels depicting naval warfare from the age of sailing ships to submarine warfare in World War II. With the development of aviation in World War I, the advantages of aerial reconnaissance opened up for naval forces. The model of a flying boat and some of its equipment have found their place.

Since Pula served as a naval base in World War 1 and 2, a large part of the exhibition is dedicated to this topic. Austrian, Italian, German and British submarines are thematized.
